The expectations of users of electromagnetic flowmeters are growing. In addition to the flow measurement itself, customers expect the flowmeter to be more accurate, reliable, easy to install and use, as well as attractively priced. Therefore, manufacturers of electromagnetic flowmeters are trying to meet these requirements and are implementing new solutions. One of the latest trends are solutions that are supposed to make it easier for electromagnetic flowmeter users to collect and store measurement data. Not long ago, in order to check the current meter readings, it was necessary to approach the device and read it. With the increasing popularity of flow measurement and the increase in the number of measuring devices, these activities became more and more burdensome and time-consuming. Visualization systems that collect and display measurement data in one place, so that access to them is quick, simple and legible, are already a standard. With the development of telemetry systems, access to data from devices located even far from central management systems is becoming common. The decrease in the costs of the devices themselves and maintenance means that this is starting to become the norm, and not a rare solution used only for critical measurements.
The Flow38 electromagnetic flowmeter for water and sewage is a reliable flow measurement device. It is characterized by simple operation and an attractive price. It is also available in a version with the MID certificate. All this makes the Flow38 electromagnetic flowmeter the most popular flowmeter in the Poltraf offer.
Following current trends in the sphere of measuring devices, the manufacturer of the Flow38 electromagnetic flow meter - Comac Cal - has developed an IoT telemetry module for this flow meter. Thanks to this small module, which mounts inside the Flow38 electromagnetic flow meter, the user gains remote access to measurement data via a web platform. Importantly, it can also be installed in Flow38H electromagnetic flowmeters already in use. However, in the case of older Flow38H flowmeters, this involves replacing the power board, which is not designed to support the IoT Module.
The standard data refresh rate is only 2 minutes. It is also possible to increase the frequency to 1 minute. However, it is important to note that telemetry cards have a data transmission limit. This is usually 2GB/month. Therefore, you should pay attention to whether this amount of data is enough to transmit for a full month. Data in the system is presented in the form of easy-to-read graphs. This allows you to quickly review and analyze measurement data. It is also easy to select the periods for which we want to review the data. In turn, the ability to set alarm thresholds for each measured parameter, allows you to get immediate information about an anomaly or failure (sms, email). This allows you to react very quickly to uncontrolled water bursts or pipeline failures.
The IoT module from Comac Cal, thanks to its extremely low power consumption, can also work with FLOW45H battery flow meters. Thanks to this, we can monitor water failures and water consumption in places where there is no possibility of connecting a permanent power source in an even simpler way.
Work is currently underway to expand the module with pressure measurement. In combination with flow measurement, the user will receive even more accurate information on the condition of the infrastructure.
The IoT module is an integral part of the Flow38 electromagnetic flowmeter. The IoT module is manufactured by the same manufacturer as the flowmeter, the Czech company Comac Cal, which has focused on providing the best flow measurement devices from the very beginning of its activity. The Flow38 flowmeter can be purchased with or without the IoT module. However, due to the many benefits that the IoT module has, it is worth considering this extension. The IoT module saves time (remote measurement) and money (immediate notifications of failures and breakdowns, remote measurement). The IoT module for the Flow38 electromagnetic flowmeter is available with a SIM card and access to the cloud system immediately for a period of 10 years at a very attractive price. For a whole decade, the user does not have to remember to pay subscriptions and takes full advantage of the IoT module.

The Poltraf FLOW MEASUREMENT: CHALLENGES – TECHNOLOGIES – SOLUTIONS conference was held on October 2-4. Available technologies, advantages and comments regarding individual solutions were presented by our partners: Comac Cal, Systec Controls and In-Situ (MACE). The conference was also an opportunity to celebrate the 30th anniversary of our company, which is why this year we met in Gdańsk, where Poltraf has been based since the very beginning of its operations.

The next edition of the Poltraf conference will be held on October 8-10, 2025. This time, it will be devoted to new devices for measuring flow, level, pressure, temperature and measurements of water and gas parameters in environmental and process conditions.
